Barnardos: Upcoming Events
Separate to Barnardos service, Scott Casson Rennie who hosts the Adoption and Fostering podcast is also involved with FASD Ireland (Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Ireland). One upcoming event they've arranged which may be of interest to you, is An Introduction to Non- Violent Resistance (scroll down to second item on the page).
Barnardos are providing some targeted support to parents over the next few months. They have settled on a ‘summer series’ of online parenting support groups, aimed at parents with particular shared challenges or at similar stages:
- A group aimed at one parent families - coming up soon on Wednesday 15th of May and is open for registration now.
- A group aimed at parents of younger children (primary school age or younger) on Monday 27th of May. This is also open for registration - sign up here.
- A session for parents of young adults on Wednesday 12th June. We know that challenges can persist into adulthood and wanted to give parents an opportunity to continue to receive peer support. Register here.
- Barnardos plan to confirm a session for adoptive fathers in mid-June. There's a good gender mix at most of our groups but we feel that at times men may be less likely to come forward. A forum to talk through the specific joys and challenges of adoptive fatherhood is overdue. Barnardos will confirm when a date is confirmed and registration is open.
- There are some spaces left in the Me, Myself and I course for 16-18 year olds in Dublin. This will be run in Christchurch on June 18th – 20th. Sign up here.
