Parents' Groups and Courses
We had lively and interesting Parent Support groups in Galway and Cork over the last few weeks so thanks to all who attended. There's still time to join our upcoming Dublin session aimed at parents of teens, taking place next Tuesday Sept 26th at 6.30pm. Register here.
We also ran an online group for parents of younger children recently that we hope was helpful. There will be further informal, in-person meetings in all 3 centres later in the year.
Right now, our exciting new ‘Staying Grounded’ 4-session course for parents is available to book on our website. Rather than focusing on the behaviour of your children or young people, this course will provide a space for reflection and learning about how to best manage your own stress and reactions to parenting challenges. “To help them we have to help ourselves first”, as one parent recently put it to me.
Galway is now running a waiting list with very limited spaces left for Cork and Dublin:
On the evening of Thursday 9th November, we will also be running a webinar for parents of teens. 'Who are they becoming?' Parenting adopted teenagers as they begin to figure out who they are will focus on the common challenges of identity that so many adopted teens can struggle with. Register here.
Groups for children and teens
We're running a Let’s Think About Adoption workshop for 8-11 year olds in the Midlands during the school midterm break, taking place on Thursday 2nd November at 11am in the Central Hotel, Tullamore. We've chosen this venue in the hope that we can reach a wider group of people – apparently it's a 1 hour 20 min drive from Dublin and Galway, and 2 hours from Cork! Register here.
We're running the Different Parts of Me group aimed at 13-15 year olds in Christchurch in Dublin on November 8th and 15th and in our Claregalway office on November 8th and 11th. These 2-session courses have proven to be very popular – so much so that we organise reunions on occasion!
We are also running our Me, Myself and I group aimed at older teens aged 16-18 in November in Christchurch, starting on November 9th. This 3-session course looks at identity during this crucial coming of age time and can also lead to good connections and bonding within the group. Register here.
Thank you all for your ongoing interest and support of our service. If you would like to make a donation to support our work, you can do so online here and can specify Post Adoption Service in the comment box if you wish.
