Update on criteria considered for ‘special needs’ category 

The Department of Children & Youth, Bangkok, Thailand has updated the criteria which they will consider to indicate a child with special needs.  The updated criteria received by the Adoption Authority are as follows –

 

  • Corrected intestinal problem
  • Visual acuity abnormalities
  • Strabismus (crossed eyes, surgically corrected)
  • Hearing impairment
  • Slightly deformed ear
  • Imperforate anus
  • Spina bifida
  • Hand abnormalities
  • Bowed legs
  • Clubbed foot
  • Walking difficulties (requiring cane, leg braces or splint)
  • Heart disease
  • Positive for pulmonary tuberculosis
  • Thalassemia
  • Positive for hepatitis B
  • HIV positive
  • Hyperactivity
  • Physical/sexual abuse
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Downs syndrome
  • Epilepsy
  • Delayed speech
  • Delayed physical and social development
  • Parental background
    • History of drug or alcohol abuse
    • Psychological problem
    • Intellectual impairment
    • History of emotional illness
    • Mental retardation
    • Incest
  • Older child (aged over 4 years old)
  • Siblings (the oldest child aged over 4 years old)
